Seasons Change and So Do I

So I know that I have already posted this skirt with another outfit. But I think that is what being stylish is all about.... being able to mix and match your wardrobe with different items to make a completely yet just as stylish outfit. I love that I can wear this skirt with tights and leather jacket in the winter and then with sandals and a tank in the summer.

I think the days of packing up the winter clothes in a box for the attic and then pulling out the summer clothes are now over. Clothes and trends are now made so that there is more of a transition from spring to summer and fall to winter- so the clothes can be worn in all seasons. And while the seasons change, you can wear the same basic pieces but with the new trends!

Head Scarf: Esprit
Tanks: Bershka
Skirt: Mango
Shoes: Hand Made in Argentina

I love the contrast the ultra girly flowers on the skirt with the black background. I think it is a nice contrast between good and bad! And while this skirt is ultra short, I though it only appropriate to wear without tights while at the beach.

Much Love,
Karen

Peacocks and Patterns

Jordan and I are rocking the whole patten on pattern trend that is sooo hot for Spring 2010. Actually, I have to give props to Jordan's creative eye as all of the amazing patterned pieces are hers. Luckily she brought some great pieces from her extensive wardrobe back home so that we could put together this photo shoot!! I love that both of us are wearing beautiful peacock patterns - again it wasn't planned that way but it just seemed to work out wonderfully.

Check out the matching red flats!!

I wasn't so inclined on the pattern on pattern thing this season. I thought that it looked great on everyone else but me. But now after this photo shoot I think I am hooked - I love it!! So, thanks for inspiring me Jordan!!

P.S - Thanks for the photo shoots Jordan. I had so much fun and I hope you did too!!!

Inspired by Frida Kahlo

Check out the Frida Kahlo shirt. It is made and designed in Sayulita, Mexico by a French couple. The name of the company is called Revolucion Del Sueno and there are only 100 shirts printed with one design so each shirt is numbered. So, I not only love the shirt because it is like wearing a piece of art but because has Frida Kahlo on it - the classic image of Mexican art. Influenced by indigenous Mexican art, Kahlo's self portraits are renowned for their dream like quality. She was not only an important political warrior but she became one of the world's most important artists. An inspiration to me and many others, like a tribute to her image and what she stands for, I am proud to have her on my shirt.

I think that this Frida shirt is so fitting for me this week as she was often referred to as the wife of Diego Rivera, despite her many accomplishments. I thought of Frida when I  was also referred to as Dominic's wife during a business meeting. It is true, I am his wife, however I am also a person with a name, who owns 50% of our company. Although I cannot compare my accomplishments with Frida's, I can sympathize with her and protest for my name.

So I know that this background doesn't really match the outfit, but I kind of enjoy the contrast. This is what I happened to be wearing as we drove by this amazing place. I think it is the remnants of an old Spanish style house in a small town called San Pancho. Sort of suiting for the whole Frida Kahlo theme.

Style vs. Comfort

Ohh, the joys of an amazing sunset at the beach. It is hard to beat a moment such as this one. Although I know that this dress is not the most stylish piece in my wardrobe, I love it to pieces. There is something to be said for simplicity, which I think this dress paired with a cute little red pair of Repettos does a very good job at.

My very stylish Finnish friend once told me that you can't follow all of the fashion trends of the season. Rather, you have to take a few of the trends and incorporate them into your wardrobe and make the trends your own. You have to wear what you like and for me the most important thing is to be comfortable - what ever that means for you.

For me, being comfortable means I feel good in what I am wearing. It also means that I do not, under any circumstances, ever, wear high heels or a dress/skirt that is too short which you have constantly be concerned about. Does comfort matter to you??? What does it mean to be comfortable to you??

I love whoever thought up putting pockets in dresses!! Thank-you. Thank-you. Thank-you.
I love the back of this dress!!

Flower Power

I am really getting into the whole floral trend this season. I love love love my new skirt from Mango. It has added a little punch of color into my wardrobe.  It is almost like wearing a bouquet of flowers,  it will not only cheer you up but everybody around you.

The floral trend this season has a bit of a grown up twist in comparison to other florals. The florals this season come in a variety of colors including red, pink, blue and purple however they are on a dark background navy blue or black.  I know that the floral skirt would look super cool paired with a floral top but maybe I will give it a try when I get a little bit braver. For now I will enjoy the skirt as is.

I have been wearing this grey t-shirt a ton but it just seems to go great with everything I own!!

It is almost getting too hot here for me to be wearing tights and boots but I guess I shouldn't complain!
