Raised in Los Angeles, Paula Patton has been pursuing her dreams of becoming an actress ever since she was a little girl. Having grown up in the entertainment capital of the world, Paula began preparing for a career in the business while still in high school. Paula’s teen years were spent at the prestigious Hamilton School for the Performing Arts, where the would-be performer spent hours honing her craft. After graduating, Paula received the opportunity of a lifetime when PBS selected her as one of four young filmmakers to participate in a program called The Ride, in which she was given access to equipment and a small crew, and told to film her experiences with other youths across America.
Following that experience, Paula enrolled at UC Berkeley, though she transferred to USC Film School after her first year, and went on to graduate magna cum laude. It wasn’t long before Paula, with her experience on The Ride and her education behind her, managed to land a job with the Discovery Channel as producer for the show Medical Diaries.
Paula eventually grew tired of toiling behind the camera and decided to sign herself up for acting classes. She consequently began the arduous auditioning process, finally landing her first role opposite Will Smith and Eva Mendes in 2005’s Hitch. She followed that up with a small part in the little-seen drama London (also released in ’05 and featuring Chris Evans, Jessica Biel and Jason Statham), and appeared alongside OutKast boys Andre Benjamin and Big Boi in Idlewild (2006).
Paula was also cast in the 2006 film Déjà Vu, a thriller starring Denzel Washington and Val Kilmer.

The Sleeves Have It

Paula Patton arrives at 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards at Staples Center, Los Angeles on February 8, 2009Puffed up sleeves seem to be all the rage these days. If you thought you'd left pink, frilly, puff-sleeved birthday dresses behind you think again. Now you can wear them in black for the after party. Take your cue from Beyonce, Veronica and Paula. They prove that any trend can be modernized. The sleeves definitely have it. See below for some inspiration.
Style on the Go…

Rashida Jones at Stella McCartney’s screening of Peter Sellers’ “The Party” on May 6, 2008.
Ashanti onstage during the MTV Networks Upfront at the Nokia Theater on May 8, 2008 in New York City.Joy Bryant looked nothing short of stunning at Jay Z’s recent bash at his 40/40 club. Though the dress is a little Fredericks of Hollywood, she somewhere makes it work! After 13 years of wearing makeup, I still can’t get my eyes to look that neat and defined. Liquid eyeliner just burns my eyes! I'm also still looking for a natural lipstick color - suggestions welcome :)
Paula Patton is wearing my favorite color and she’s doing it justice. I think the shoes are a little boring but I guess you can’t go wrong with a classic black Christian Louboutin pump. Both Paula and Joy are sporting heavy bangs which is such a cute look with layered hair. No, I don't know where to get this dress but I know Target has a cute, affordable purple dress for $23.
Rashida Jones is ready for summer! She flaunted her shoulders and legs in a sexy, one strap chiffon dress a recent Stella McCartney evemt. Rashida’s style is never offensive, but I wish she would take more of a risk with her hair and/or makeup. How about a chin length bob? She’d also better keep an eye on that clutch…
Ashanti is slowly making her “come back”. Though I doubt the music scene has missed her, her style evolution has been great to watch. This black and white dress is a classic. Twenty years from now, body shape permitting, you could still pull out this dress and wear it like it was a recent purchase. Now if only we could get Ashanti to try another lip gloss color. That frosty pink is so 1982!

Paula Patton
Paula Patton arrives at the First Annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon on February 21, 2008 at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
Paula Patton was the epitome of girlish-chic at the recent First Annual Essence Black Women In Hollywood Luncheon. If you're going to wear a dress this flirty and bold, ease up on the jewelry and just sport classic stud earrings. If you're too big in the chest to comfortably (and safely) wear a strapless dress, this look will work just as well with spaghetti straps. See below for the low down.Steal Paula's Style...

Sequins are nothing new but they’ve made a resurgence on the Spring 2008 runway shows, including Marc Jacobs, Tracy Reese and Badgley Mischika and now celebrities are wearing them too. Whether it’s tiny sequins like on Kimora Lee Simmons or Paula Patton’s dress or huge ones like singer Keri Hilson, sequins add zing to any outfit. Keep the look from looking Vegas-like by sticking to black, if you must add color take a leaf out of Joy Bryant’s book. The silk flowers are divine.

Tracee Ellis Ross at the Katy Rodriguez Celebration of her Eponymous Collection.Take a cue from these ladies and shift into gear with the must-have dress du jour. A throw-back from the sixties, the shift dress is a classic style that shows no signs of disappearing. If you’re worried about looking too retro in a shift, pick a fabric with a futuristic twist like Paula Patton or try something a little more eclectic like Tracee Ellis Ross. Remember that the shift dress was made for the clutch purse, so give it what it deserves!

Paula Patton attending the Touchstone Pictures world premiere of "Deja Vu" at the Ziegfeld Theatre last week in New York City.I had no idea India Arie had been appointed the position of UNICEF Ambassador… Congratulations to her. She looks fantastic in this dress. She wears long evening gowns well. Read more about her UNICEF role here.
Ashanti is making the media rounds to alert people that she’s still alive! She made stops at MTV’s TRL and Sucker Free Sunday as well as 106 & Park all on the same day. She looked great and I loved her hair, although that quiff is a little passé.
Paula Patton is fast becoming the next black A-lister actress. I’m glad too, because I sometimes get a little fed up of watching films starring Gabrielle and Sanaa, as much as I love them. Here she is at the “Déjà vu” premiere which I must watch it soon. I wonder why she never walks the red carpet with her husband Robin Thicke?
Finally, Cassie is sticking to what she does best and that’s looking good on the red carpet. Whilst I wish her skirt was a bit longer she’s working the whole look to perfection. See more pics of Fendi’s B.Mix bag here. I love the silver one!
What Say We?... Yay or Nay?! **Double Edition**
Aisha Tyler poses in the press room at the 2006 Creative Arts Awards last week in Los Angeles, California
Paula Patton at the movie premiere of ‘Idlewild’ at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York City last night. There just seems to be too much fashion madness out there right now! Most of you will know Aisha Tyler from Friends, afterall besides Gabrielle Union (who dated both Joey and Ross one episode), Aisha was the only black person on the entire show! Aisha has since had recurring roles in 'CSI' and 'Ghost Whisperer' and has recently completed two movies. Here she is wearing a crushed velvet dress in the LA heat! Is she crazy or just plain stupid?... And it wouldn't be so bad if the velvet was used to create a gorgeous dress, but this monstrosity is highly unflattering! LMAO at that bow running down the front of the dress! Suspect receives MAXIUM SENTENCE!!
Paula Patton is a Hollywood newcomer so one would think she'd pick a better dress for her first major red carpet. Maybe she doesn't yet have the access to the top designers, but I can't help but think she could do better than this? Now before you all think i'm being too harsh look at the back of this dress... Big Nay Nay!! She still looks great though, her hair and makeup are flawless!
Update: I just found out that Paula Patton is married to singer Robin Thicke! You learn something new everday!
