Just Another Day in Suburbia

So since I have no new mods to discuss, the next few entries will probably focus on my various rants and raves about being modded, perceptions of those who are modded, and the like.

For those who don't know, I live in the suburbs. Visible tattoos are about as common as the bubonic plague. As a result, I become a walking point of interest to those who encounter me. When I'm at work and don't have a sweater on, usually at least one person will comment on my ink. For the most part, if they've decided to bring it up, they're going to say something nice. On rare occasions, someone is actually looking for a recommendation and I point them in the right direction. The vast majority, though, just stare and squirm. Or they'll ask something stupid like "Did that hurt?" or "Is that real?".

I was actually surprised when we went to play laser tag a few weeks ago in the most suburban of suburbia, I didn't get one dirty look from parents. It's like just by having tattoos, I'm somehow encouraging their kids to get full sleeves. Umm, no. If your kid is gonna get a tattoo it's not because they saw me when they were eleven. Though if they did, I'd probably be flattered. You just never know how you influence someone's life.

I often get asked if I regret them. Aside from the fact I don't really believe in regret, I don't. It does make my life harder sometimes, but if I had the chance to do it over again, I don't think I'd make a different choice. It's part of who I am. I guess it's like asking someone if they regret having a nose job or a boob job. A choice has been made and, for better or worse, you live with it. Ideally, you never look back. I find that sometimes I peek over my shoulder wondering what could have been if I'd made a different choice. Then I remind myself that I know what it's like to not be modded and that I'm better off now. Being who I am is worth a few adjustments to my wardrobe.

Katrina Breaks Down: I can't believe I can act so well

Last week at a special screening of Kabir Khan�s New York Katrina Kaif broke down after she saw what was on screen. �It was embarrassing. This has never happened to me before. I was deeply moved by the film. And I couldn�t believe what my director Kabir Khan had achieved in my performance. I kept staring at myself. �That�s me!� I exclaimed at the end of the film.� This is the first time that Katrina has played a character who echoes her own personality. �So far all my characters have been pretty alien to me. Even the London girl in Chandigarh in Namaste London was not at all like me. But the girl in New York connects deeply with me. Or do I connect with her? It�s symbiotic, I think.� When he saw what synthesis of �actor� and �character� had been achieved she simply broke down. Remembering that evening Katrina says, �It was a very private screening. Only members of the cast, our director his wife, the producer and his wife were there. I�ve never been so impressed by any of my films. So far they�ve all been in the orbit of escapist entertainment. New York is my first realistic film.I�m proud of all my films. But this is new chapter in my career.� Katrina will be devoting the next two weeks solely to promoting the film. �So far our producers Yashraj Films haven�t allowed us to talk about New York. Even now I can�t talk much about it without giving away the plot. But I�m very proud of what we�ve done.�

Singer-actress Sophie Chaudhary struck an instant camaraderie with Australian singer Peter Andre at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards, but denies any romantic involvement with him. "Peter was sweet and a thorough gentleman. We spoke about music, London, Bollywood and his new album. I am a singer and in future we may collaborate but I don't want people to put two and two together and come to wrong conclusions. However much contemporary I appear on screen but I am an Indian girl at heart. I will never date a married man, " Sophie said. While Sophie hosted the IIFA fashion extravaganza in Macau earlier this month, Andre had especially flown to the Chinese town to perform at the event. On the very first day of the IIFA weekend, Sophie initiated conversation with Andre and the two hit it off thereafter. They even walked together on the green carpet of the IIFA awards ceremony. Sharing what her conversation with Andre was all about, Sophie said: "Peter was talking about his kids all the time. New York - Movie Review

By Taran Adarsh Rating: **** Myth: New York is about 9/11. Fact: It's not. But it reflects the mood that's prevalent across the globe, post 9/11. The world is divided today. No two opinions on that! Myth: New York bears a striking similarity to KHUDA KAY LIYE. Fact: Nope. KHUDA KAY LIYE and New York may belong to the same family, of an innocent person being picked up for questioning after the WTC catastrophe, but the similarities end there. In fact, KHUDA KAY LIYE and New York are as diverse as chalk and cheese. New York, helmed by Kabir Khan, attempts to be as real as possible. A tale of friendship, with terrorism as the wallpaper, New York hits you like a ton of bricks at several points in the narrative. In fact, there was a possibility that New York may turn out to be a dry experience, a documentary perhaps, but the drama is so well structured and so gripping that you get sucked into the world of Sam, Omar and Maya from its inception. New York is a triumph for Kabir Khan, who deserves distinction marks for handling the subject with remarkable maturity. Also, this film should be a turning point for John, Katrina and Neil. More on that later... The verdict? New York is, without doubt, one of the finest films produced by this premier production house, Yash Raj. Grab a ticket today! Omar (Neil Nitin Mukesh) has gone abroad for the first time in his life and soon enough, he begins to see and love America through the eyes of his American friends, Sam (John Abraham) and Maya (Katrina Kaif). But an incident changes the world round them. At this point enters Agent Roshan (Irrfan), an FBI agent, who sets the ball rolling for a series of tumultuous events that turn the lives of these friends upside down. New York affects you like no other Hindi film has done so far (on 9/11). In fact, there are portions that give you goose bumps, especially towards the second half of the film, when John recounts his past. One of the reasons why New York works is because not once does Kabir Khan borrow from the past or tilt towards predictable stuff. You just can't guess what and where the story is headed and what the culmination would be. The director and his team of writers establish the plot and characters beautifully, but the real action is reserved for the second half. The nightmarish experience that John undergoes is disturbing, but lifts the film several notches up. But New York has its share of loose ends. The film dips in the second hour. It tends to gets lengthy before it reaches a powerful, brilliantly executed climax. Also, a few sequences only add to the length of the film, which could've been curtailed in the writing stage itself. Director Kabir Khan picks up a real incident -- innocent civilians being suspected as terrorists, soon after 9/11 -- and weaves a brilliant tale around it. The screenplay is its biggest star, without a doubt. Given the fact that New York isn't one of those routine masala fares, Kabir has injected songs only when required. Cinematography is striking. Now here's another surprise. John, Katrina and Neil, all actors, deliver their career-best performance. If the first half belongs to Neil, John takes over the second hour completely. John is superb when he recalls the past. You can feel his pain, that effective is his performance. Also, note his expressions towards the end. This is a different John, for sure. Just one word for his performance -- fabulous! Neil was remarkable in JOHNNY GADDAAR, but disappointed in AA DEKHEN ZARA. Fortunately, he's in top form this time around. Katrina gives you the biggest surprise. Known for her glamour roles, Katrina proves that she can deliver if the director and writer offer her a role of substance. She's outstanding. In fact, people will see a new, different Katrina this time. Irrfan is, as always, first-rate. On the whole, New York is amongst the finest films produced by Yash Raj. At the box office, there's no stopping this one. Go for it now!

Love Aaj Kal - Music Review

Music Director: Pritam Chakraborty Lyricist: Irshad Kamil Singers: Sunidhi Chauhan, KK, Neeraj Shridhar, Mohit Chauhan and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan Rating: *** After the hit score of "Jab We Met", director Imtiaz Ali has collaborated with Pritam yet again for the music of Saif Ali Khan's production debut "Love Aaj Kal". Pritam has left no stone unturned in creating soulful melodies. The film that stars Saif and Deepika Padukone has seven originals and three remixes in the soundtrack. "Aahun aahun", which has an electrifying start with the strumming of the guitar, is an amalgamation of a hit Punjabi pop song by singer Jazzy B and the Hindi song composed by Pritam. Sung by Neeraj Shridhar, the song keeps juggling between the two genres and is very entertaining. It sets the mood by mixing both Indian and western influences. "Aahun aahun" will surely be a hit. The number also has a remixed version, which will become a favourite on the DJ consoles. Up next is a beautiful rendition in Rahat Fateh Ali Khan's voice. "Aaj din chadeyya" starts with a small alaap. A romantic song that is extremely soothing to the ears, "Aaj din..." strikes a chord with the listeners. The song has a feel-good factor. With brilliant vocals by Sunidhi Chauhan and Neeraj Sridhar, the next song "Chor bazari" starts with foot-tapping, peppy music. The lyrics are not the highlight of the song, but the number has the potential to impress music buffs. This too has a remixed version, which is quite average. KK makes his presence felt with fast-paced song "Main kya hoon", which is enhanced by electronic and psychedelic beats. With the next song "Thoda thoda pyar", the Punjabi flavour takes precedence. Sung by Sunidhi Chauhan, it has a folk touch to it in places. But it might not go on to become a chartbuster. Neeraj Sridhar returns with "Twist", which is intermingled with the song "Ek pardesi mera dil le gaya" from the 1958 film " Phagun". It's a dance number that is high on beats. The remixed version, however, is better than the original. Finally we have Mohit Chauhan crooning the song "Ye dooriyan". The song is just about passess muster, but Mohit's vocals are the highlight. On the whole, Pritam has done a good job with the soundtrack and created songs that are sure to become hits.

Bipasha refuses to give in to Hollywood star’s demand

Bipasha Basu has recently signed an international project with Hollywood star Billy Zane. But she is not willing to bend down to anyone’s demands.

She has made it clear that she is not going to go out of her way to keep the makers of the film happy. And the makers of the film just tasted one such experience.

A photo shoot with the main leads of the film had been planned and they were to even do a look test together. The shoot had been planned in Los Angeles because Billy Zane did not want to travel to India just for a photo shoot.

The producers felt they could convince Bips easily to fly down to LA. But Bipasha refused.

Her argument was that if the film was to be shot in India and Zane had signed the film, then it should not be a great deal for him to come to India for the shoot.

Since it is a joint venture, Bipasha wanted to assert her stand as well.

The producers have not managed to convince Billy yet, but Bips is not relenting too.

Salman will not be seeing New York

Salman Khan is in no mood to see “New York”, even though girlfriend and lead actress of the film Katrina Kaif is trying desperately to convince him to watch the film.

Katrina’s performance in the movie has been well appreciated and hence she is keen Sallu sees her latest film. But Salman is said to have flatly refused.

According to close sources from Katrina’s end, the actress is hurt by Salman’s policy of ignoring all her films, even though she makes it a point to watch all his movies and even attend his premieres and special screenings.

Salman does watch movies in general but when it comes to watching Katrina’s films he refuses to see them.

If sources close to Salman are to be believed, Salman does not like his girlfriend’s physical proximity with co-stars. He is very possessive about her and can’t see her with someone else, even on screen.

In fact, it’s said that he does not even like Katrina wearing any revealing clothes in real life. And if he sees her wearing something he doesn’t approve of, he asks her to change.

Michael Jackson's Children Devastated

Youngsters said to be inconsolable – but what will happen to them without their father

The death of Michael Jackson is said to have left his three young children distraught.

The King Of Pop is survived by Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11, and seven-year-old Prince Michael II, known fondly by the singer as Blanket.

His sudden death is expected to spark a frought legal battle over who gets custody of his three children.

The singer was pronounced dead aged 50 at a hospital in Los Angeles last night. He was taken there in a coma following his collapse at home.

It is not yet known who will take care of them, but a source close to his family said his ex-wife Debbie Rowe is expected to receive initial custody while long-term arrangements are sorted out.

Nor is it clear what their financial situation will be. Although Jackson ranked alongside the Beatles and Elvis Presley in terms of his earnings, in recent years it has been rumoured he had amassed huge debts of an estimated $60million.

He had planned a series of comeback concerts at London's O2 Arena, which would have cleared his debts.

Prince Michael and Paris were the product of Jackson's second marriage to Rowe, a nurse, in 1996.

After the couple divorced in 1999, Jackson took on sole responsibility for their children's upbringing.

There was some controversy surrounding the move and questions were asked as to whether Rowe would receive access rights.

But he was quoted as saying she was happy togive up the children to Michael completely, saying: "They're his kids, not mine. They're his kids".

Michael was so fiercely protective of them he took an unusual approach to protecting them from the media glare by covering their faces.

His third child, Prince Michael II, was born to a mystery surrogate mother he never even met.

Earlier this month, Michael was photographed with his two older children in Los Angeles looking healthier than he has in recent months.

His sudden and tragic death has sent shockwaves across the world.
