Products I'm Lovin'...

Pocket Palette, Quad no.9, $36 (available in one other color combonatioin).
Tips: When adding gloss to the lips, fill in the entire lip with a neutral lip pencil then smooth on gloss with a lip brush.

Sakura Collection - Eye Shadow Trio, Pink trio, $28.
Tips: Use the lighter shade first, then build up the intensity and color using layers.

Convertible Lash + Line, Teal, $20 (available in three other colors).
Tips: Using the mascara wand, lay the brush at the base of the lashes and wiggle the brush upwards and out. This will create fuller lashes and open the eye area.

I absolutely love Stila Cosmetics, they're pricey as you can see, but their products last a long time and are packaged so well (I love girlie packaging!). Their web site is fun too. As well as the useful tips they post under each product (see above), you can also write to a makeup artist and ask for tips. Also check out their e postcards and send one to a friend. Visit www.stilacosmetics.com to join in the fun!

Style on the Go...

Mya attended the Sephora and Universal Motown' s Celebration of 'Style and Sound' the Tuesday just gone, in New York.
Amerie arriving at the Pharrell Williams & Absolut Ruby Red Pre-VMA Bash at Chinatown Brasserie Wednesday night in New York City.
Mariah Carey arriving at the 2006 BMI Urban Music Awards at Roseland Ballroom last night in New York.
Candids of Foxy Brown leaving court… don’t ask me what she did!

Second only to the red carpet, the Court House seems to be the new place to show off your sense of style! Winona, Oprah, Halle, Lil' Kim and Foxy Brown all worked the judiciary system like it were a catwalk... Do your thing ladies! Mariah has finally found a way to wear a short dress and still look classy. And my girls Mya and Amerie look so cute in their ensembles, but when did cosmetics counters become the ideal venue to promote albums Mya?!

A Day in the Life of an Intern...

Hi guys, I started my internship today at D.C.'s Style magazine... I feel like Lauren from 'The Hills,' LOL! Anyway, it was a little overwhelming, but I'm really excited about what I'll be doing during my time there and you guys will get the inside scoop on what's going on in the world of fashion! I've already been assigned an article on a Designer Sample Sales event and I'm covering the 'Fashion RIPS' runway show hosted by the Congressional Black Caucus Spouses, later this month (I'll post about it soon!). If you live in the D.C. Metro area pay close attention, as I'll be posting many events that are happening in-and-around D.C. Visit D.C. Style's web site @ www.dcstylemag.com and become a 'Style Club' member, where you'll receive emails about upcoming retail sales and fashion events! ;)
Note: If you live in Philadelphia or Atlantic City, check out their 'Style' magazine issues!

New Stuff and Sale Stuff: Max Studio

I have recently been shopping a lot more at Max Studio. At first I thought their color palettes might be too sub-dued for me. But lately I have been finding a lot of great staples there. Here are few I found online lately. Textured Leather Wedges $149, Kimono Top $38 (Reg. $98) and Shirring Jacket $71 (Reg. 238).

Style Inspiration: Classic

Garcelle Beauvais always looks stunning and this little black dress is to die for!
Gabrielle Union and Tracee Ellis Ross are the reigning queens of classic style!

Every closet needs it's staple items; the little black dress, the perfect gold pair of shoes, the classic coat, and since the stores are starting to release their Fall collections it's the perfect time to update your closet. I have my eye on those boots from Urban Outfitters and that coat would fit seamlessly into my current wardrobe. It's sometimes worth spending a little more on classic items of clothing, a great fitting pair of black trousers will see you through many seasons... But of course that doesn't mean you have to own just one pair! ;)

June Ambrose's Book Release Party...

June Ambrose arriving at her Book Release Party looking effortlessly stylish!
Beyonce and Diddy with June.
Lorriane Gibson and Melyssa Ford (?).
Stephon Marbury and designer, Zac Posen stopped by to show some love!
Pras and Timberland dressed to impress... Lovin' the pink shirt Pras!

It's nice to have friends in high places! Diddy hosted this lavish party to celebrate the launch of the new book "Effortless Style" by June Ambrose. She even got Beyonce to attend!... And doesn't Lorriane, the choreographer on MTV's Making the Band, scrub up well?! Learn more about June's new book here!

Style Spotlight: Tomiko Fraser

Model Tomiko Fraser has style oozing out of her pores; if you don't know about her then please get to know! She is currently the face of cosmetics company Maybelline and was the first African-American model signed to the company. She also works extensively with Lupus Erythematosus organizations trying to raise awareness of the disease (her sister has Lupus). It would be easy to think that all models are naturally stylish, but in my opinion most of them lack innate style (bar Kate Moss and Helena Christensen!) Tomiko also seems to know what works perfectly for her body, as shown here where she's pictured arriving at the opening celebration of Gregory Colbert's Exhibition "Ashes and Snow" earlier this year. Tomiko has appeared on runway shows for Chloe, Chanel, Vera Wang, Vivienne Westwood and Emmanuel Ungaro and is trying her hand at acting... She's a girl with many talents!

What Say We?... Yay or Nay?!

Venus Williams pays tribute to tennis legend Billie Jean King as the USTA National Tennis Center was officially renamed the "USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center" yesterday at the U.S. Open.

She tries bless her, but it never quite works out... I watched this ceremony last night and these pics make Venus look much better then what she actually looked like live on television! I'm going to give her a 'Nay,' but with an 'A' for effort!

Did You Guess Right?!...

Ashanti arrives at the premiere of 20th Century Fox's "John Tucker Must Die" at Mann's Grauman Chinese Theater on July 25, 2006 in Hollywood, California.

Okay so most, if not all of you, correctly guessed that it was Ashanti! But next time it won't be so easy d*mn it! LOL!

Style Inspiration: Eclectic

Erykah Badu looking chic and polished, but why the unhappy face? She always looks like she's about to 'shank a hoe!'
Suzanne Boyd, former editor of Flare and Suede magazine, and Kelis work their respective looks.
Red Top: Satin Spaghetti Top, $19.80, Forever 21; Round-Toe Shoes: Round Toe Heels, $22.99, Charlotte Russe; Clutch Bag: Surburban Snake, $38.00, www.amiciaccessories.com; Shirt: Bronze by Chulo Pony, $168.00, www.paper-doll.com; Flat Sandals: Tally Thong, $14.99 (On Sale!), www.hotkiss.com; Heels: Flux, $79.00 Franco Sarto; Jacket: Birdie Stump Trench B by OK47, $64.00 (On Sale!), www.paper-doll.com; Kimino Top: Satin Kimono, $24.80, Forever 21; Belt: Rhinestone Buckle Belt, $39.00, www.spiegel.com; Blue Bracelet: Maureen Braclet, $5.99, www.gojane.com; Tote Bag: Soft & Slouchy Sash Shopper, $82.00, Nine West; Dress: Moon Dress, $228.00, French Connection; Earrings: Green Shell Earrings, $6.50, Claire's; Skirt: Tropical Pleated Skirt, $27.80 Forever 21; Hat: Light Black Denim Fedora Hat, $26.95, www.goomoo.com

I'm really trying to broaden my style! I'm a basic colors kinda gal, who is always drawn to the black items in the store rather than the funkier stuff! So I took inspiration from the ladies above and found these cute pieces that I think I might actually wear... but not all at the same time!

GirlShop.com

I saw this dress on another fashion blog (Stained Couture) and I quickly made my way to www.girlshop.com! They have a HUGE sale on right now, with as much as 70% knocked off original prices... It actually used to be 80%, but I think all that stuff is gone, I guess you've gotta be quick! Anyway, the site has some great finds, which isn't surprising if you consider that many up-and-coming designers sell their collections via the site. Make sure you check them out before this coming Labor Day (September 4th) as EVERYTHING you purchase qualifies for a 15% discount!

Dress Pictured: Convertible Halter Dress by Karanina, $345, www.girlshop.com

Can A Girl Have Too Many Bags?!

Hell No! And a cute little site called Amici proves it! They mainly carry handbags, such as clutches, hobos, totes etc., but they also have a small selection of belts and headwear, all at very reasonable prices! I noticed that a lot of their pieces are made using really unique and brightly colored satin and silk, which gives their products an edge. I'm loving that white hobo bag with the gold butterfly print and it only costs $24.00! Visit www.amiciaccessories.com before their end-of-season sales stops!

2006 Emmy Awards...

Tyra Banks and Eva Longoria
Garcelle Beauvais and Vanessa Minnillo
Shaun Robinson and Alfre Woodard
Seal & Heidi Klum and Omar Epps & Kiesha Spivey

The 58th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards aired last night on NBC and here are some of the red carpet arrivals... I didn't even watch the show but from these pictures the event looked very blah, blah, blah. I love Tyra and Eva's dresses and the two couples at the bottom look great, but other then that they weren't many highlights. On another note, is Heidi expecting another baby?... She stays pregnant!

Note: You can click on any of the pics on this site to make them bigger! ;)

Best Emmy Dress

So I picked my two favorite Emmy red carpet dresses. Evangeline Lilly (from Lost) Versace strapless dress - love the color on her! Heidi Klum (from Project Runway) in Michael Kors. Although Heidi looks great I wish she would have had one of the winners from Project Runway design her dress (as she has done in other events). I am kind of sick of the same old designer names walking down the red carpet. Which one do you like best?

Guess the Style Diva!

Think you know your celebrities and their style? Try and guess who this starlet is pictured here arriving at her movie premiere last month...

Bag, Borrow & Steal...

I remember hearing about this web site some time ago, but then Giovanna W. emailed me about it and I finally checked it out! Bag, Borrow & Steal is very interesting; the basic concept is this… You can either rent, i.e. ‘borrow’ a bag for as long as you want provided you’re a member on a monthly payment plan (think Netflixs!) There are different levels of membership, which entitle you to different levels of bags. The Couture and Diva line are their most expensive, followed by the Princess and Trendsetter line. For example, the Gold Gucci Evening bag belongs to the Couture range and will set you back $60 per week or you could go with their monthly rate at $175. If that’s sounding a little ludicrous, you could opt for the more affordable Yellow Lulu Guinness Small Rita bag at $13 per week ($40 per month.) So now you ask, why not just buy the bag? Well let’s face it, not all of us can afford a Balenciaga or Louis Vuitton designer bag, but that doesn’t mean we’re not worth it! If you’ve longed to walk around with a Hermes Birkin, but your salary restricts you to the cheaper Korean knock-offs, I guess this site allows you to live your dreams for at least one week! If you’re still not convinced, you can join the site for free in order to be eligible to buy, i.e. ‘steal,’ used bags at bargain prices from their Outlet! Up to 70% can be taken off the original price (I’m waiting for this Grey Chloe Paddington New Satchel to go on sale!) Free membership allows you to ‘save bags to your own Wish List and stay on top of the latest designer news with Bag Borrow or Steal emails.’ Visit www.bagborroworsteal.com to get started and tell me what you think of the whole concept!

Note: The site also carries Jewelry!

Cassie

Cassie at the 'Scarface The World Is Yours' video game launch.
Yes we've all seen the infamous clip of Cassie's 106 & Park 'performance' (and if you haven't here it is... click here!) But despite her shortcomings, i've always liked this outfit which she wore earlier this year on the red carpet. I'm a sucker for dresses worn over pants and this colorful top is really girly and playful! The Forever 21 top below comes pretty close...

Steal Cassie's Style...

Top: Solar Flare Tunic, $17.80, Forever 21
Jeans: Crinkled and Creased Jeans, $34.80, Forever 21

Shoes: Pawla, $44.95 (On Sale!), Steve Madden
Bag: Top shelf Moto bag, $139.00, www.akostyle.com

This look is quite casual, i'd probably wear it to the movies or a music concert. Be sure to add some cute jewelry to the look to give it some shine!

Style on the Go...

Rochelle Aytes arriving at the Glam Slam 06' party presented by Tennis Channel, Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and ATP at Crobar on Friday, August 25 in New York City.
Sheri Saum also attended the Glam Slam 06' party last Friday in New York.Serena Williams inside the Glam Slam 06' party - Her arm muscles are outta control!Sanaa Lathan, arriving at the season four premiere screening of "Nip/Tuck" held at Paramount Theatre last Friday in LA.

Sanaa and Rochelle can do no wrong in my eyes... they always look fabulous! And I actually think Serena looks nice, though I wish this leggings trend would die already! Her ass is really testing that spandex! Sheri Saum is an actress that you might recognize from ABC's One Life to Live or if you watch Girlfriends, she was the crazy wife who tried to beat down Joan for having an 'affair' with her husband Frank! Look out for her in the new movie 'Primal Scream' out in 2007.

Blogger is being a real b*tch!!

I woud have posted more today, but Blogger is being so tempromental right now. Everytime I try and upload a picture it disappears :(

Plus, the sidebar has drifted South, so you'll have to scroll to the end of the page to view the 'Style Watch' slideshow etc. I hope they get their ish together soon... Sorry for the inconvenience!

Achieve Effortless Style...

June Ambrose and the cover from her latest book, 'Effortless Style.'

Fifteen years ago, June Ambrose was working in the highly stressful financial field as an investment banker, when a close friend told her about the recent internship she had landed at the now defunct Uptown Records. June thought to herself ‘that’s the kind of industry I should be working in!’ so she quit her job and put her love of shopping to good use. Now the Antigua-born stylist/designer works with celebrity clients such as Jay-Z, Diddy, Missy Elliott, R. Kelly, Kelly Ripa, Kim Catrall and she’s currently on tour with Mariah! With a style agency called the Mode Squad Inc. and a new book coming out in the Fall, it would seem Ambrose made the right decision leaving her job! Her new book is titled ‘Effortless Style: Make looking good look easy’ and comes with helpful illustrations on how to enhance your individual style. Visit www.juneambrose.com to learn more about June and her clients and look out for her new book which will be in stores September 26th.

Splurge vs. Steal: Platform Patent Leather

These shoes have been springing up everywhere. The platform pump is amazingly stylish and the platform adds a little extra comfort. I like the mix of the two materials, the cork heel and the shiny patent leather. You can find these shoes in a large price range - I think I saw a similar Gucci pair for $435. The two pictured here Splurge: Anne Klein $175 at Bloomingdales and Steal: Urban Outfitters $68.
